UScellular announces Monmouth youth, David Simmons, as one of three winners from the company’s sixth-annual The Future of Good program. Simmons was selected out of hundreds of nominations from across the country as someone who is creating positive change in their community. As a selected winner, he received $10,000 to further his cause.
Simmons, age 13, is being recognized by UScellular’s The Future of Good program for identifying a shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) around his county, researching how he might use his knowledge of 3D printing technology to help protect medical professionals during the pandemic and developing a solution. He has made more than 150 face shields benefitting his county health department, area clinics and schools in western Illinois, and has been able to use his evolving knowledge of 3D printing to fill a significant void, protecting the people in his community.
“David has been doing great work in Monmouth, and I’m excited to see his efforts rewarded through The Future of Good program,” said Mike Burwell, director of retail sales and operations for UScellular in Illinois. “Amazing young heroes are all around us and UScellular is proud to showcase their work, invest in them and support them to continue to do good.”
UScellular has championed many causes through The Future of Good program, including the fight against hunger and homelessness, the protection of the environment and expansion of education and literacy.
From December 1 through December 31, 2020, UScellular encouraged the public to nominate youth between the age of six through 17 who are helping to create a brighter future for all of us.
