Patty (Simpson) Alwardt, 75 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, passed away suddenly at 7:35 a.m. Saturday, February 27, 2021 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center ER in Galesburg.

She was born May 28, 1945 in Galesburg, the daughter of J. Lavern and Viola Mae “Billie” (Ross) Lindsey.  She married Melton D. Simpson.  She later married C.W. Alwardt.

  Patty is survived by her children, Darrel Simpson of Galesburg and Lorelee Simpson (and Wayne Galpin) of Galesburg; two grandsons, Kevin and Drew and one granddaughter, Britney; one great grandson, Mason; one sister, Peggy (Carl, III) Kennett of Camp Verde, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

  She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, C.W.

  Patty grew up in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1963.  She later lived in Springfield, in Arizona and in Galesburg.  She worked as a Doctor’s office receptionist, as a cashier for stores and most recently as a nanny.  She loved spending time with her family, thrift store shopping, working in her flower garden and strawberry patch, dancing and she enjoyed a great time of laughter.

  Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2021 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel.  A time to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.  Due to guidelines associated with the Covid-19 Pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited occupancy.  Cremation will be accorded following the visitation.
