Share

The West Central Heat football program made the switch from traditional 11-man football to the 8-man variety starting this school year. On Friday night, the Heat faced Peoria Heights for their first game. Heights is also in their first year of transitioning to the quickly growing sport. The Heat jumped all over the Patriots, getting out to a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter on touchdown runs by Liam Reed and Kaiden Droste. After a touchdown by quarterback Max Carnes in the second quarter, West Central led 22-6 and would hold a 22-14 heading into the halftime break. Another Carnes touchdown and two more Droste rushing touchdowns in the second half led to a 46-20 opening night victory for the Heat. Droste rushed for 213 yards on 23 carries to lead the Heat offense. West Central head coach Jason Kirby recapped the win on the WRAM Morning Show on Wednesday.
