The Abingdon-Avon Tornado non-traditional spring sports season is coming to a close, which means the traditional spring sports season is ready to get started. The Tornado football ended their season two weeks early and the volleyball and soccer teams are nearing the end, as well. Up next…..baseball, softball and track and field. Those three sports will be able to hold a somewhat normal postseason, ending with state championship trophies being handed out. A-Town AD and football assistant Reid Kelso says the kids are ready and willing to get going with their next sports.
The baseball team will be the first spring/summer sports to get started. The Tornadoes open up with a road game at Brimfield on Saturday. The Tornado softball squad is scheduled to start their games on April 26th at home against the Bushnell-Prairie City/West Prairie co-op. That game could be in jeopardy with positive covid-19 cases in the West Prairie School District. The Abingdon-Avon boys and girls track and field teams will get underway on April 30th at Monmouth-Roseville’s Sunny Lane Field.
