City of Monmouth Hires New Water Dept. Superintendent and Promotes Joe McVey

The City of Monmouth is announcing a promotion in their  Public Works Department.  Joe McVey has been elevated to the position of Street Superintendent. McVey has worked for the street department since 2008 and is a lifelong resident of the community. He has performed many different projects during his time with the City, ranging from fixing water mains in the dead of winter to repairing the roads in the summer heat and everything in between. His new responsibilities include managing the street department and all its personnel, including safety, job assignments, maintenance, record keeping, and reporting. Meanwhile, the  Public Works Department hired a new Water Department Superintendent following Roger Blackman’s retirement. Richard Nelson holds the appropriate State of Illinois required Class A water license and joins the team after retiring from Galesburg as their Water Superintendent. Nelson has been in charge of different municipal water production facilities since 1984 and brings a plethora of experience to Monmouth. Nelson’s new responsibilities include managing the water department personnel, plant and system maintenance, record keeping, and maintaining all regulatory standards that ensure Monmouth has safe drinking water.
