Carl Sandburg College President Dr. Seamus Reilly states technology and science are the way of the future as there have been massive changes in day to day activities. Dr. Reilly says at Carl Sandburg they strive to educate and train individuals in long standing professions:

“The staples of what we are building for the future are on what we think will be jobs and professions that are going to be around for a long, long time. Those include allied health, agriculture, particularly science based programming and of course technology as that has continued to evolve incredibly quickly. Manufacturing too and then there will always be opportunities in education and continuing engagement in working to navigate business practices or finance, or insurance. We have a tremendous program in cyber security. It is going to be an important part of what people are going to be doing. I think that is what community colleges are going to be doing in the future is constantly retraining people as we continue to see a  tremendous transformation in science and technology.”
