Karen Joyce Branyik, 87 of rural Abingdon, passed away at 3:54 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2021, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
She was born January 13, 1934 in Peoria, the daughter of Verne Z. and Anna S. (Schwab) Hall. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Jennie and Harry McGarvey due to the death of her mother when she was six years old. She married Vilmos Branyik on March 2, 1956 at St. Mary’s of the Woods in Princeville. He preceded her in death on September 27, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Jack V. Hall and one sister, Joan Rockhold.
Karen is survived by two sons, Vilmos (Shannon) M. Branyik of Abingdon and Vincent J. Branyik of Abingdon; five grandchildren; and her former daughter-in-law, Beverly Branyik of Abingdon.
She graduated from Dunlap High School in 1951. Over her life she lived in Peoria, Dunlap, Chicago, and Zion Illinois but has lived in rural Abingdon since 1978. She worked for many years in the office of her husband, Dr. Vilmos Branyik and she was a homemaker. She enjoyed reading, swimming, and going to the casino.
As she requested, cremation will be accorded. Private graveside service will be held at Meridian Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
