Mon-Rose Graduate Kelsey Wyman Winding Down Successful College Track Career

Share

2017 Monmouth-Roseville High School graduate, Kelsey Wyman earned varsity letters in three different sports while competing in high school. She also qualified for the IHSA Track and Field State finals in three different seasons, in three different events throughout her four year high school career. As a high school freshman, Wyman was a part of a 4×800 meter relay team that placed 11th at the 2014 Class 2A state finals. She also made the state finals in the 300 meter hurdles in each of her sophomore and junior seasons.

Wyman continued that success at Illinois Wesleyan, starting with her freshman season. She was named to the Outdoor Season All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Team for her abilities in the 400 meter hurdle event. Wyman enjoyed even more success in her sophomore season at IW, again being named to the All-Conference team in the 400 hurdles. She also earned a “Women’s Track Athlete of the Week” during her sophomore season, as well.

As with all Division III college athletes during the 2019-2020 school year, Kelsey’s junior season was cut short. However, she did get to compete in the indoor track and field season. She expanded her talents to the 800 meter run, where she was named, yet again, to the All-Conference team for that event and earned another Women’s Track Athlete of the Week” Award. Always a great teammate and team player throughout her athletic career, she helped out the IWU track team in a plethora of events during her junior year. In addition to the 800 meter run, she also competed at various meets in the 200, 300, 400 and 600 meter dashes, also the 60 meter hurdles and the 4×400 and distance medley relay teams.

Like the 2020 outdoor track championships, the 2020-2021 indoor track championships were also scratched due to the coronavirus pandemic. The cancellation was unfortunate for Wyman and her track and field teammates, as Wyman would have at least had a chance to qualify in the 400 and 800 meter events, as well as the 4×4, 4×8 and distance medley relay races.

She’s trying to make up for the lost opportunity in this spring’s outdoor season. Wyman is currently ranked 5th in the nation in the 400 meter hurdles and is on the 6th ranked 4×400 meter relay team, as well as the 26th ranked 4×100 relay team.

Not only is Kelsey successful on the track, she’s also been excelling in the classroom, as well. She’s majoring in Neuroscience at IWU and has qualified for the Dean’s List all four years at the school. Wyman has already been accepted to medical school at the University of Illinois and Southern Illinois University but has yet to make a decision as to where she’ll go.
