Proposed Warren County Jail Would Feature a 50-Bed Facility

Discussion on the proposed Warren County Jail continues with the Citizens Advisory Committee with the goal of presenting a recommendation to the Warren County Board in June.  The proposed jail would be a 50-bed facility that would comply with the Illinois Department of Corrections requirements to separate inmates based on gender, sentenced or non-sentenced and misdemeanors versus felonies. Chip Algren, chairman of the citizen’s advisory committee shares the next steps:

“The plan is for my committee to get the recommendation to the Warren County Board for their June meetings. That would be which company we recommend that the county contract with to take us through the initial design phases and referendum. It is then sent up to the county board to place it on the ballot.”

The proposed referendum would feature a ½% temporary tax at the time of the completion of payment for the construction of the new jail.  The tax would be a sales tax but would not be implemented on farm equipment, automobile sales, prescription drug costs and basic food items.

If you have questions, email the Warren County Clerk’s office where your message will be directed to the appropriate committee member.
