When Should You Begin Yard Work and Gardening this Spring?

Share

As the weather is beginning to remain warm, when is the best time to fertilize the yard and get that garden produce in the ground? University of Illinois Extension Horticulture Educator Chris Enroth states this first week of April is a good time to start preparing your lawn and garden beds:

“I like to wait until the first week of April. I have the experience of seeing snowstorms coming late March even into April and then we had a really hard freeze last spring. Just being very cautious, but right now I would prepare to level out the lawn, maybe looking at some lawn seed and maybe some fertilizer for the yard, and then freshening up mulch.”
