Approaching 65 and Plan to Still Work? Let Strom Center Director McCrery Assist

Share

If you are approaching 65, plan to still work, and are under an employer’s health care plan, Strom Center Director Carol McCrery says to examine what your health insurance is requiring before enrolling into Medicare Part A or B:

“A lot of the plans, the employers insurance will say that it will reduce their cost if they share the cost with you and you sign up for Medicare A or B and pay $148.50. It will reduce your premium and they will coordinate those benefits. Other employers say that they want all of their employees to remain the same, so you don’t need to sign up because your employer insurance is going to be the same regardless whether you are 65 or not. It is beneficial for a lot of people, when you are approaching 65, if you are going to continue to work, find out what your employer would like you to do. There is no absolute rule for everybody.”
