Charles W. “Weedie” Smith, III, 70, of Rio, Illinois passed away at 7:11 pm Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

Weedie was born August 18, 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Charles W. and Marie L. (Brinkmeyer) Smith, Jr.

He is survived by his significant other, Cindy Smith of Rio; his daughter, Cindy (Travis) Douglas of Galesburg; two brothers, Bobby (Betty) Smith and John Smith both of Maryland; his two sisters, Debbie David of Maryland, and Cathy Smith and two grandchildren, Godric Douglas and Mia Marie Tompson. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, his infant daughter, Ericka Nicole Smith, and his sister, Patty Smith.

Weedie was a handyman. He enjoyed boating and watching home movies. Weedie was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor that will be missed by many.

Visitation is scheduled for 10:00-11:00 am Tuesday, May 11, 2021at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited occupancy.  Graveside Services will follow at 11:15 am at St. Joseph Cemetery with Deacon Michael Crummer officiating.  Memorials may be made to the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
