He was born in Galesburg on April 7, 1958 to Robert Carl Stoerzbach and Beverly Jean (Lee) Stoerzbach. He married Cynthia (Full) Stoerzbach on May 23, 1981 at her parents home in Marseilles, Illinois. Together they raised a family in Galesburg.  His daughters and grandchildren are Ashley (Jeff) Strobach, Jack, Louis and Adelaide Strobach, Kirkwood, Missouri; Audrey (Matt) Scherrer, Stanley and Rod Scherrer Kirkwood, Missouri; Kathryn Stoerzbach, Knoxville, Illinois; Jaclyn Stoerzbach, Kirkwood, Missouri. Also surviving is his brother, Thomas (Diane) Stoerzbach of Spring, Texas; his sister, Jan Stoerzbach-Tichenor of Allen, Texas and his father and mother-in-law, Rod and Janey Full of Galesburg.

Dan graduated from GHS in 1976. He won Galesburg Junior All-City Champion in 1974 and 1975 and won Galesburg Men’s All-City Champion in 1978 and 1979.  He attended Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) and graduated in 1980 belonging to the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and received Magna Cum Laude honors. He also received his Certified Public Accountant degree. During his tenure at IWU he was an NCAA All-American golfer and MVP in 1978, 1979, and 1980 along with several other accomplishments including the “Order of Titan” award. A quote from an article published in 1980 IWU stated “… Stoerzbach has been the mainstay of the squads for the last four years, and is without a doubt, the best golfer in Wesleyan history.”

Dan graduated from University of Illinois law school in 1983 with the degree of Juris Doctor.  He joined Barash and Stoerzbach Law in 1983 and practiced with his father Robert Stoerzbach along with other area attorneys until 2007.

He started Stoerzbach Law Office in December 2007. He continued to serve his clients with diligence and respect until the time of his death. He deeply appreciated and valued his long-time staff that included Myrna Scott, Amy Bowman and Jennifer Allgeyer.

Golf became secondary as he and Cynthia enjoyed attending sporting events for their daughters over many years and developed a family love of boating and water sports for over 30 years.  In the last few years, Dan and Cynthia have enjoyed a renewal in golf, biking, hiking, traveling backroads and exploring rural communities. He attended the First Presbyterian Church during his youth. He was a member of the Sunrise Rotary, a board member of Knox County IL CEO, and provided professional services for Habitat for Humanity.

He shared the interest and admiration of Stearman pilots and supported the annual Stearman Fly-In. Dan’s interests included a genuine appreciation for the fine arts and was a consistent support of the Civic Art Center.

A private service is planned on Sunday morning May 23rd. Family extends an open invitation to join them for a reception in his honor on Sunday May 23rd at Soangetaha Country Club from 12pm-3pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions include Habitat for Humanity, National Stearman Foundation, Galesburg Community Foundation, the Galesburg Public Library Foundation and Western Illinois Works c/o Knox County CEO Program. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
