Explore Monmouth’s Public History with a Virtual Tour

Students of an Intro to Public History course this semester participated in a project covering public history, a facet of history that focuses on skills outside of traditional academic history. The class’s professor, Michelle Damien, shares how the project was executed:

“I asked them to think about creating a walking or driving tour of Monmouth and I divided the class into three groups. Each group chose a theme to work on … One group chose the immigrant and minority history of Monmouth, another group did military history, and another group did the architectural history of Monmouth. They were very much on their own; it was up to them to do the research, determine what locations to use. They needed to think about what overall story they wanted to tell, what’s worth having people go and look at, and then go find information about those areas.”
