Galesburg Silver Streak Football Coach Michael Washabaugh Resigns Post

Share

After Wednesday’s surprising news of Ryan Hart stepping down as the Galesburg Silver Streak head boys basketball coach, Galesburg High School Athletic Director Eric Matthews and the GHS school board will now have two coaching vacancies to fill. On Thursday, Galesburg Silver Streak varsity football coach Michael Washabaugh turned in his letter of resignation.

Washabaugh had been on the Galesburg football coaching staff since 2012, serving as offensive coordinator to previous head coach Tim Dougherty. Washabaugh took over for Dougherty in 2018. Dougherty led the Streaks to the playoffs in 3 of his seven seasons as head coach. Washabaugh was on Dougherty’s staff on each of the playoff squads. Dougherty, an Illinois High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame member, left Galesburg at the end of the 2017 season for an assistant coaching job at a large high school in Arizona.

Washabaugh went (5-19) during his 3 years with the Silver Streaks. He will remain at Galesburg High School as a health and physical education teacher.
