James R Hendel, 89, of Roseville, passed away May 5, 2021at 5:45 a.m. at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Il. He was born December 21, 1931 the son of Jay R. and Sadie D. (Kreps) Hendel. He married Clarice Watson August 11, 1951 in Avon.
Jim is survived by his wife Clarice of Roseville; Children Jerry (Anne Carman-Hendel) of Galesburg, Michael Hendel of Avon, and Susan (Tom) Dean of West Branch, IA., grandchildren, Lauren Hendel, Shawn (Robyn) Hendel, Brandon Hendel, Benjamin (Liz) Dean, Abby Dean, and Tyler Dean, great grandchildren Tralynn Mitchell, Quintin Eggen, Tristin Eggen, Halee Hendel, Morgan Hendel, Taylor Hendel, Wyatt Hendel and Kallie Hendel, one brother, Joseph (Markay) Hendel of Avon and one sister-in-law, Kay Hendel of San Angelo, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Brian Hendel, and his siblings, Marion Lois Hendel, Leitha Hendel Lock, Dale Lynn Dilkes and Larry Hendel.
Jim served in the National Guard from 1950 to 1953, was mobilized with the Army and went to serve in Korea with the 123rd Field Artillery Unit. He farmed all his life in Warren County. He served on the board of Farmers Grain from 1970 to 1992 and served as president from 1984 to1985. He was a member of the Roseville Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and volunteered on various committees including the Friendly Mixers Group. He was a member of the Warren County Agricultural Extension Council and assisted with 4-H. He was a member of the Roseville American Legion Post 614 and enjoyed an Eastern Iowa Honor Flight in October of 2014. His hobbies included woodworking and antique restoration. He showed antique tractors in local parades and tractor shows. Jim and Clarice enjoyed traveling, especially their trips to Branson, Missouri.
Funeral Service will be Monday May 10, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Wise Family Funeral home in Roseville, Il. Visitation: friends may call from 9:00 am to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday May 9, 2021 at the Funeral Home. The family will not be present. Burial will be in Roseville Memorial Park Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
