Marvin Lee Skinner, 79 of Abingdon, died at 10:20 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Swedish American Hospital in Rockford.  

  He was born April 6, 1941 in Abingdon, the son of Virgil L. and Gladys I. (Powell) Skinner.  He married Martha Ann Watson and she preceded him in death in 1979.  He later married Dorothy Wiltzius.

  Marvin is survived by two sons, Jeffery Skinner of Wichita, Kansas and Jonathan (and Olga) Skinner of Fairbanks, Alaska; four grandchildren, Zakary, Andrew, Tenley, and Megan; a sister, Mary Tatman of Monmouth; two brothers, Lawrence J. (and Dorothy) Skinner of Spokane, Washington and Gene (and Lynne) Skinner of Knoxville; and several nieces, nephews and their families.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ruby I. Steele and two brothers, Kenneth L. Skinner, a POW in North Korea, and Paul Richard “Dick” Skinner.

  He retired from the US Army after serving our country for 20 years.  He had lived most of his life in Abingdon.

  Cremation was accorded.  A graveside service with military rites will be will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021, at the Abingdon Cemetery.  Pastor Mary Runge will officiate.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
