Mon-Rose Grad Fletcher Named Pitcher of the Year in MWC; Davis & Ball Honored

Scots put three on MWC Southern Division Team

MONMOUTH, ILL. – The Monmouth College baseball team landed three players on the Midwest Conference Southern Division announced Friday. Pitcher Addison Fletcher (Monmouth, Illinois) was named Southern Division Pitcher of the Year and is joined on the 14-player squad by infielder Sean Davis (Barrington, Illinois) and outfielder Jordan Ball (Moscow Mills, Missouri). The Scots were also honored with the MWC Sportsmanship Award for the 2021 season. The player selections were split up this season into a North and South Division and all selections were based on conference stats only.

Fletcher, a sophomore, made seven conference starts this season with six quality starts to go with a 5-0 record. He posted a 3.63 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP while striking out 39 batters in 44 2/3 innings and holding opponents to a .208 batting average. Fletcher had one complete game and went at least five innings in all seven starts. He threw seven innings four times and struck out at least five batters in five starts. He led the MWC in wins while finishing second in innings, third in strikeouts and average allowed and sixth in ERA. Overall on the 2021 campaign, Fletcher was 6-0 with a 3.56 ERA and 51 strikeouts over 55 2/3 innings.

Batting in the nine spot, Ball had an impressive season for the Scots. The senior hit .372/.417/.670 in conference play while leading the Scots in RBI (35), triples (6), doubles (10) and total bases. He slugged two homers and stole four bases while scoring 23 runs. Ball hit safely in 20 of 24 conference games with eight multi-hit games and nine multi-RBI games. He led the MWC in triples while tying the Scots single-season record. Ball finished second in the conference in RBI, third in doubles, eighth in slugging percentage and 10th in hits.

Davis finished his senior season with a 22-game hitting streak and he hit safely in all but one conference game this season (Game 2, April 3 at Cornell). Davis hit .363/.455/.480 on the season with six doubles, two homers, 20 RBI, three steals and 27 runs scored. He led the Scots in hits (37) and runs scored while finishing second on the team with 16 walks. Davis finished sixth in the MWC in hits and piled up 10 multi-hit conference games on the season.

The Scots finished the year 15-9 in conference play with a 17-11 record overall. Coach Alan Betourne, his staff and the entire team were honored with the MWC 2021 Sportsmanship Award.
