With Mother Nature not being very cooperative the past week, the high school baseball and softball seasons have been put on hold, waiting for fields to dry up. With the seasons already being compacted due to the coronavirus pandemic, schools have tried to squeeze as many games into their schedule as possible. Torrential downpours for the past five days have created a long list of postponed games. Adding in the fact that regional tournaments are slated to start in less than 2 weeks, most of those games will most likely have to be canceled. Repetition and practice is probably no more important than in the sports of baseball and softball. Monmouth-Roseville baseball coach Jim Cole says that with the postseason just around the corner, it’s imperative that his club gets some games played.
The (5-6) Titans have had their home game against West Hancock canceled for Wednesday. They will try again on Thursday afternoon, as local rivals, the Macomb Bombers, visit Sunny Lane Field. The Bombers know all about time-off. They have not played a game since a May 1st double header against Father McGivney. It hasn’t been the rain that’s held up the Macomb schedule, the (5-2) Bombers were on a 2-week shutdown due to positive covid-19 cases. We’ll have tomorrow’s game on AM 1330/FM 94.1 WRAM with the pregame show starting at 4:10. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30. It’s also senior day for the Titans.
