Chief Casey Rexroat of the Monmouth Fire Department cautions everyone to handle fireworks with care as summer is rolling in:
“I just want to remind everyone to be careful. Fireworks are obviously still not legal in Illinois; only certain ones are, the sparklers and things like that. I know a lot of people go and find their own fireworks, and I just want to make sure people are being safe. Fires can start very easily from fireworks being shot off in town and landing on roofs, and things like that.”
