Eagle Scout Project Completed at Diffenbaugh-Harmon Park

Jake McElwee, a sophomore at United High School and a member of Boy Scout Troop 60, has completed his Eagle Scout project to refinish Lion’s Park. McElwee shares the process of the project:

“When we started, I had to go buy a bunch of materials, and then we retiled the yellow tiling on top. We had to cut it, and then we built a rig to put it on the fence. And then, we raised the concrete three inches because the sand would always wash into the dugout, so now there’s cleaner floors. We put new benches in and painted them, and we also painted the dugout.”

The project was supported by the Lions League with a $500 donation, support and guidance through the Monmouth Park District and Troop 60 members logged 143 hours in an effort to complete the work at Diffenbaugh-Harmon Park. The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest achievement members of the Boy Scouts of America can obtain. Only four percent of Scouts have earned this rank since the beginning of the Boy Scouts program in 1911. Since then, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by over 2.5 million youth.
