The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire Wednesday evening, June 9th, at 670 S. Academy St. at 5:21 pm. The response included all three stations and 11 personnel on duty. Upon arrival at the multi-unit apartment building, light smoke could be seen coming from the roof.

Battalion Chief Donald Brackett assumed command and the Central Station crew made entry and extinguished a kitchen fire. An emergency callback was initiated to provide emergency coverage for the city. The fire was contained to the kitchen by suppression crews and was determined to be an unintentional fire caused by cooking. There were no casualties, and preliminary damage estimates are approximately $20,000.
