Americans are gathering together again, and that will certainly be the case at Gibson Woods Golf Course on June 25, as Monmouth College’s annual Fighting Scots Golf Outing returns after a one-year absence.
The field for the afternoon event is full, with 36 foursomes teeing off in a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
“After more than a year of virtual alumni events, we are very eager to welcome our Fighting Scot alumni and friends back to Monmouth for our seventh annual golf outing,” said Monmouth Vice President for Development and College Relations Hannah Maher.
Proceeds from the outing go toward the Fighting Scots Society, the College’s athletic booster program. The Fighting Scots Society supports initiatives such as travel, uniforms, equipment, training and rehab, recruiting outreach and other activities.
“This years’ event filled up in record time, and we are so grateful for the support of Monmouth athletics,” said Maher. “With more than half our student body participating in varsity sports, our donors ensure we have the best facilities, equipment and resources available to our scholar-athletes.”
The event is made possible through the generosity of area businesses. MTC Communications and Smithfield Foods are the primary sponsors. Other sponsors include: Midwest Bank (carts), Advanced Plumbing (beverage cart), Midwest Uniform Supply (driving range) and Buffalo 67 (dinner).
Five Monmouth alumni who are Country Financial agents in western Illinois have pooled together to sponsor the golf balls for the event: Tiffany Mekshes Cole ’89 and Ben Olson ’12 in Monmouth; Shelley Brown Postin ’89 in Bushnell; Brent Bigham ’01 in Taylor Ridge; and Julie Roth Hessler ’01 in Orion.
The Fighting Scots Society Golf Outing package includes greens fees, cart, mulligans, prizes and dinner. Additionally, there are opportunities for men’s and women’s longest drives and longest putts, and raffles are available, as well as the chance to connect with Fighting Scots alumni and friends.
