MPD, Chief Joe Switzer Addresses Safety and Caution Regarding Bird Scooter

Share

Monmouth’s new form of transportation, the Bird Scooter, has met with some rebuttal. Joe Switzer, the police chief of Monmouth, comments about their impact on the police department and the general community:

“We’ve had some complaints on the scooters. There has been a handful of people who have been injured. Be responsible on the scooters, and stop to pay attention to traffic control devices, stop lights, and yield signs. Just because you’re on a scooter doesn’t mean you can go through one of those. If you’re observed or a complaint comes in about the manner in which you are riding the scooter, we’re going to address it.”

Earbuds and headphones are also discouraged on both scooters and bicycles, as you should be able to hear horns, sirens, and engines around you. Stay out of the way of traffic and abide by the laws that are mandated to the vehicle you are taking.
