Take Precautions and Be Responsible This Holiday Weekend with Cannabis and Alcohol

Share

As Independence Day draws closer, Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer asks that everyone be safe and levelheaded over the holiday weekend with both alcohol and the legal use of cannabis:

“Just be aware of what you’re doing, especially when it comes to drinking and driving. Drink responsibly—if you can, have a designated driver. You can be impaired with the use of cannabis and getting in your vehicle and driving down the road. They are still working on standards as far as blood levels, just like with alcohol levels. If we detect it, we still have a mechanism to see if someone is impaired. Impairment on cannabis is similar impairment with alcohol; there are still indicators there that we look for.”

Chief Switzer also reminds us that this will be a holiday, high traffic weekend, where everyone should pay attention to the road and practice defensive driving to keep themselves and others safe.
