Discussion continues on what to be done about the Warren County Jail. The Citizens Advisory Committee brought forth seven recommendations for the County Board to consider including: hiring the design build firm Ringland Johnson, utilizing a public facilities sales tax with a sunset clause to help fund the project, establishing a budget for the project, as well as three committees to complete certain tasks says Buildings and Ground Chairman Sean Cavanaugh:
“A committee to locate suitable property for the project and there are some other items that are attached to that such as having a big enough property so in 50 years or 20 years we can build onto that, maybe a courthouse or something of that nature. Also, a committee to investigate the availability of grants to help cover the cost because jails are not cheap. Then a political action committee for the purpose that would be used to raise money to promote the referendum because by law your tax payer dollars cannot be spent pushing a referendum.”
One last item recommended to the County Board was if feasible to tear down the existing jail and build a parking lot. Cavanaugh informs all recommendations were accepted by the board.
