Wilda Ruth Hastings, 80 of Abingdon, passed away suddenly at 4:54 a.m. Sunday, June 20, 2021 at her home.

  She was born August 14, 1940 in Carmi, Illinois, the daughter of Raymond Theodore and Mabel Wilda (Rankin) Smock.  She married Jack Hastings on October 15, 1960 in Carmi.

  Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Jack; one daughter, Ronel (and Bob) Martin of Alexis; two grandchildren, Rhyder Gray and Valen Gray; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Steve Smock of Oklahoma; and one sister, June Smith of Carmi.

  She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.

  Ruth grew up in the Carmi area and graduated from Carmi High School.  She has lived in Abingdon the past 57 years.  She worked in the office at the Illinois Power Company in Galesburg and retired after 37 years of service.  She was a member of the Church of God.  She enjoyed crocheting and loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals, “Go Cards”.  She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and going to anything they were involved in.

  Services and entombment will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2021, at the Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Galesburg.  Pastor Darrell W. Garrett will officiate.  There will be no visitation.  Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, facemasks are suggested.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

  Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society or FISH Food Pantry.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
