Mrs. Betty Jean Furness Pulley, 82, of Galesburg passed away at 3:51 pm Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

Betty was born June 7, 1939 in Peoria, Illinois the daughter of George and Dorothy (Jamison) Furness. She married Gerald Pulley, Sr. on August 8, 1954 in Greenville, Mississippi.

Surviving to honor her memory is her loving husband of 66 years, Gerald; her children, Michele R. Pulley of Illinois, Sonya Pulley of Tennessee, Gerald (Eden) Pulley, Jr. of the Philippines, Glen (Ann Marie) Pulley of Illinois, Donald Wade of Iowa, Virgil Gingery of Missouri, Linda Pulley of Iowa and Barbara Hicks of Illinois; her brothers, Ronald (Polly) Furness of Illinois; her sister, Judith Trammell of Wisconsin; two sisters-in-laws, Diane Furness of Illinois and Olivia Graham of North Carolina; her brother-in-law, Sammy James of Illinois; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grand children, nieces and nephews and two very dear friends, Roberta White of Illinois and Betty Wilson of Georgia. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Robert Pulley on December 4, 1978; three brothers, George, Charles and Carlson Furness; her sister, Phyllis James; and her brother-in-law Otis Trammell.

Betty attended Peoria Central High school and earned her GED from Carl Sandburg College in 1996. She worked as a nurse’s aide for many years at St. Mary’s Hospital. Betty took pride in working as a silver brazer/welder for over 30 years for the Admiral/Maytag Corporation, retiring in April of 2002.

Betty was raised of the Baptist faith. She had a passion for cooking and baking, with some of her specialties being duck and noodles and strawberry pizza! She enjoyed a good crossword puzzle and tending to her yard work. Betty loved all of her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. She will truly be missed by many.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 am Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Hinchiff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel with the Rev. Tyson Parks III officiating. Those wishing to attend the funeral “virtually” may watch the live broadcast at 11:00 am Wednesday on the funeral home’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Hinchliff-Pearson-West-Funeral-Directors-and-Cremation-Services-160333664037824.   Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
