Ernie Michael “Mike” Curtis, 73 of Abingdon, passed away suddenly Wednesday, May 21, 2021, in Coralville, Iowa, where he was staying while undergoing treatment for lung cancer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Mike was born April 6, 1948 in Galesburg, the son of Earnest and Marceline (Coon) Curtis.

He is survived by two sons, Michael (Erika) Curtis of South Carolina and David Franklin of Galesburg; one daughter, Kristy Owen of Abingdon; three grandchildren; three sisters, Sandra (Jerry) Ruth of Nebraska, Sue (Dick) Bearce of Galesburg and Sharon (Jimmy Curtis) Cameron of Galesburg; nieces, nephews and their families; and a very good friend, Joe Walker of Abingdon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Joshua Bearce.

Mike lived in the Abingdon area all of his life. He was a Navy veteran. He worked in the autobody repair business for Butch & Jerry’s Autobody and Bob Jones Autobody. He later worked as a repairman for Don’s RV & Repair in East Galesburg.

As Mike requested, cremation will be accorded. A time to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting his family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
