Lola Marie Lant, age 65, of West Burlington, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 5, 2021 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born July 16, 1955 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Ivan and Irene Link Lant. At the age of 17, she married Timothy Brokaw (divorced). A few years later she married David Root (divorced).
Lola was a 1973 graduate of Southern High School in Stronghurst. After graduation, she worked as a cook and bartended for many years. She also enjoyed working as a Tupperware dealer. Locations she was employed include HendCo Hills golf course in Biggsville, Country Fun near Biggsville, the Raritan Café, Graham’s Tavern in Gladstone, and most recently, 34 Truck Stop in West Burlington. She retired in her older years due to health concerns. She loved her family, her customers, she enjoyed camping, being down at the river with friends, going to the casino, bowling and macrame.
Survivors include two daughters; Joie Brokaw and Serena (Michael Reynolds) Root, both of Stronghurst, one son; Christopher (Rebecca) Root of Oquawka, IL, her father; Ivan Lant of Media, IL, seven grandchildren; Seairra Gem, Karisma Jewel, Kierstin Marie, Zeak Michael, Brian Christopher, Leland Lavern, and Aiyana Irene, three sisters; Cathy Perry of Creve Coeur, IL, Lorretta Rountree of Burlington, IA, Iva (Bill) Carlson of Biggsville, IL, and two brothers; Lyle Lant of Media, IL and Craig (Donna) Lant of Macomb. She was preceded in death by her mother Irene (Link) Lant and one sister; Debra Ann Lant.
A potluck-style Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 10, 5 p.m. at St Patrick’s Catholic Community Center 2000 E & 600 N, Raritan, IL. For the potluck, smoked pulled pork and chips will be provided. Banks & Beals Funeral Home of Stronghurst is assisting the family.
