Lynn and Dane Gittings on the Henderson County Fair

The Henderson County Fair is ongoing and pushing through heat wave after heat wave. Lynn Gittings describes how the livestock and contestants are faring on Wednesday morning:

“We are showing lambs and more goats this morning; we have cattle tomorrow. We’re trying to keep both exhibitor and livestock cool this week—it’s kind of getting into a bit of a danger zone, but I know all these guys are good herdsman and do what needs to be done to take care of their livestock. These kids, more times than not, put that animal before they put themselves.”

Her son, Dane Gittings shares how he feels about the showmanship and livestock competitions from an exhibitor’s point of view:

“I’m feeling pretty good. I’ve been studying pretty hard on all the species, and I’m just ready to get out there and tell the judge what I’ve been learning. I’m 15, and I’m a sophomore at West Central High School. I’ve been pretty much all summer been working at the barn feeding lambs and calves. I’ve hit six shows so far, and I’ve got another that’s undefeated, so I’d like to keep that rocking.”
