Baseball leads the way with 18 players

MONMOUTH, IL (07/12/2021) Monmouth College had 71 student-athletes named to the Midwest Conference 2020-21 Academic All-Conference Team on Monday. Only student-athletes from the spring sports season were eligible as the MWC did not sponsor fall or winter sports in the 2020-21 school year due to COVID-19.

The 71 honorees rank fourth in the MWC which had 669 student-athletes named to the Academic-All Conference Team. The spring season included six league-sponsored sports and student-athletes had to post a 3.33 GPA to be eligible.

For the Fighting Scots, baseball led the way with 18 selections, followed by women’s track and field at 17, softball at 15, men’s track and field with 12, men’s tennis with six and women’s tennis with three.

As announced last month, outside of the MWC, the Scots also had 15 on the Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference All-Academic team, four on the Midwest Lacrosse Conference men’s lacrosse team and three on the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s golf team. Overall, Monmouth had 93 student-athletes honored in the spring season.

“We continue to show signs of improvement over the last decade and we are very happy with the progress our student-athletes have made in the classroom,” said Director of Athletics Roger Haynes. “Our department goal remains 50% of our student-athletes as All-Academic so there is still work to be done.”
