New Training Areas Built for Illinois’ Police Departments

Share

With a new reform bill being implemented, Illinois police departments will have access to all-new training areas. Monmouth Police Department Chief Joe Switzer describes what these new areas will cover:

“There are new training areas; there’s about nine of them. They cover neuroscience of addiction, law enforcement, medicated assisted treatment, eliminating stigma for people with substance abuse, avoiding racial bias, a deflection program, the promotion of racial and gender equity, working with community partnerships, and deflection of rural communities. A lot of the deflection things are obviously going to cover the drug cases that we deal with.”

Switzer hopes to see training programs taking place in these new areas from the Law Enforcement Coalition in the future.
