A new teen center called “Recharge” will be opening in Monmouth from 2-7 p.m. The center will provide kids from ages 12 to 19 a safe space to be, with resources like computers and Wi-Fi, a study space, access to a counselor, a washer and dryer, and more. There are also plans to offer classes on how to grow as people, trade skills, and becoming functioning adults. Kelci Foss, the Director of Population Health at Eagle View Community Health Systems, shares why it was decided to set up a program like this in Monmouth:
“We’ve just noticed—and I’ve heard a lot of people say—that kids always, if they’re not in sports, go home and get into trouble. So this is really that opportunity to keep them busy after school and really tap into their skills and show them what all is out there that they can do in the future and really empower students to be themselves.”
The “Recharge” program plans to be in the building across from the Tin Cup on South Main Street. Foss says that there is no specific opening day yet, but they hope to open their doors this fall.
