Vaccination Rate Nears 50 Percent for Those Eligible to Receive COVID shot

Nearly 49 percent of eligible Warren County residents have received a COVID-19 vaccination. Health Department Administrator Jenna Link (above left) is encouraged by reports that approximately 80 to 100 county residents are being vaccinated weekly against the virus.

“We’re seeing a lot of parents bringing their students in to get vaccinated,” Link said, “and an increase (in requests for) the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Right now we do have it in inventory; after August 3, we’re not sure when we’ll be able to order more.

“So, if you’ve been kind of the fence and thinking about getting the J & J because it is one and done, now is really the time to get it done.”

According to Link, the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus has been identified in Warren County.

“That seems to be the variant that is prolific right now,” Link said. “That’s why we continue to encourage people to get vaccinated. All of the vaccines are working against the variants. The intent of the vaccination is to prevent severe illness or hospitalization.”

Link also reminds listeners that the health department will offer free vaccinations at the Monmouth Downtown Farmer’s Market on Friday, July 23, from 5:30 to 8 pm. The first 20 attendees who get vaccinated that evening will receive a commemorative COVID crock, courtesy of Monmouth Pottery.
