The eight teams are set for the 2021 American Legion World Series in Shelbyville, North Carolina. The most local team, Dubuque County, Iowa Post 137, will open up tomorrow at noon against Beverly, Massachusetts. Dubuque comes in on a roll, winning all five of their Mid-South Regional games by a cumulative score of 37-21.
Illinois State Champ, Rock Island Post 200, dropped both of their games at the Great Lakes Regional in Morgantown, WV last week. Post 200 ended their season with a record of (26-5) after falling to Owensboro Kentucky, 6-3, and Harrison Ohio in a heart breaker, 3-2. Rock Island led 2-1 heading to the top of the 5th against Harrison before giving up two runs in the top of the 5th. Rock Island had the tying run in scoring position in the 6th and 7th innings but couldn’t push across the tying tally.
Like Dubuque County, Midland Berryhill, Michigan Post 165 also steamrolled their competition in the Great Lakes Regional by a margin of 45-7 on their way to a World Series berth.
The World Series will be comprised of two, four-team pools. The top two teams in each pool after round-robin play will move on to a four team, single-elimination tournament starting on August 16th. All 15 games of the 2021 American Legion World Series will be available for viewing via ESPN broadcast or streaming services. The 12 pool play games will be streamed on ESPN3 starting tomorrow morning at 9am while the semifinals and championship game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
