The City of Galesburg has selected Kraig Boynton as the City’s Transit Manager, effective August 30, 2021. The Transit Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the City’s Transit Division, which falls within the Community Development Department and offers fixed-route bus service, as well as paratransit services.
Boynton began his career with the City in 2001, when he was hired as a Junior Accountant. In 2004, he was promoted to Purchasing Agent. While serving as the Purchasing Agent for the City, Boynton provided oversight of bids for city projects, purchasing contracts, and grant management. He has in-depth experience with grants on both a Federal and State level and was heavily involved in managing the construction of the Transit Maintenance Facility. With the implementation of the Grant Accountability Transparency Act, Boynton has taken a lead role in ensuring the City is compliant with all standards in order to remain eligible for state and federal funding.
“Kraig has been an instrumental member of the City of Galesburg team,” said Todd Thompson, City Manager. “His willingness to take the lead on projects and ensure they are handled meticulously illustrates the value he has brought to his role as Purchasing Agent. I have the utmost confidence he’ll excel in his new role as Transit Manager as well.”
Boynton is from Galesburg and holds a degree in Accounting from Monmouth College. He has been an active volunteer in the community, including serving as the special events co-chair, president, and past president of the United Way of Knox County; a volunteer for the Stearman Fly-in; an active member of the Faith United Methodist Church; and co-chair of the Taste of Galesburg.
