Donald S. Robinson, 81, of Galesburg, died at 9:18 p.m. Friday, August 6, 2021, at home surrounded by family.

He was born December 24, 1939, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Dr. L.E. and Maude (Chesnut) Robinson.  He married Pamela Gunther on November 28, 1960, in Burlington, Iowa. 

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Pamela; four children, Kim Hawkinson of Chicago, Kathy (Roger) Cisco of Geneva, Illinois, Karen (Matt) Bogen of Nolensville, Tennessee, and Kurt (Jenni) Robinson of Galesburg; 10 grandchildren, Grace Madison, Nicole Ynocencio, Andrew and Danny Cisco, Kat, Jon, and Sarah Bogen, and Tori, Alli, and Tyler Robinson; two great grandchildren, Jordan and Logan Ynocencio; and three brothers, Leon Robinson of Bettendorf, Iowa, David Robinson of Aledo, Illinois, and Thomas (Marilyn) Robinson of Mundelein, Illinois.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Nicholas Arthur Bogen.

After graduating from Aledo High School, he went on to graduate from Knox College where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity as well as ROTC.  After graduating from Knox College, he served in the United States Army from 1961-1963 with the rank of Lieutenant.  After leaving the Army, he went on to receive his Master’s in Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Don first worked with American National Bank in Chicago.  After returning to Galesburg to raise his family he worked with the former First Galesburg National Bank from 1969 to 1988, and finally with Farmers State Bank of Western Illinois, where he retired in 2011 as Chairman of the Board. 

Don enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren as he took many family vacations to enjoy the beach and spend time golfing.  Don loved the Chicago Bears, during both the good and bad times, too bad he will miss the upcoming season.

Don was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and trustee.  He was a member of the Soangetaha Country Club where he enjoyed many rounds of golf and swimming with family and friends.  He was a past Soangetaha board member.  He served as a trustee at Galesburg Cottage Hospital for over 15 years, and on the boards of the Galesburg Police Pension from 1976-2007, Bridgeway, Inc, the Harrington Home, and the Chamber of Commerce.

Don will always be remembered for his infectious smile and positive attitude.  He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  Memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the chapel.  Cremation will be accorded with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.  A celebration of life will be announced at a future date.  Memorial contributions may be made to Knox College, Class of 1960, 2 E.
