Doris M. Sanberg, age 92, of Kirkwood, Illinois passed away at 8:06 pm
on Friday July 30, 2021 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg,
Illinois. Doris was born on January 2, 1929 in Kirkwood, Illinois and is
the daughter of Daniel Edgar and Blanche Mae Tweed. Doris attended
school in Kirkwood and graduated from the Kirkwood High School. She
first married David Martin Holford on November 3, 1950 at the Methodist
Church in Kirkwood. He passed away on May 11, 1969. She later was
married to Glenn Edward Sanberg on May 19, 1984 also at the Methodist
Church in Kirkwood, Illinois. He passed away on September 10, 2006.
Doris first worked at Birdsell’s Appliance in Kirkwood, Illinois. She
later worked at the Branch Library in Kirkwood for many years and also
for the Western Illinois Library System in Monmouth. She is a member of
the Rebekah Lodge for over seventy years, and joined the Kirkwood United
Methodist Church when she was 10 years of age. She was a member of the
Kirkwood Methodist Women, the Warren County Home Extension and the
Kirkwood Classy Red Hatters organizations. She is survived by her
daughter, Janet K. Cook and Jim of Monmouth, and two sons, Steven G.
Holford of Little York, IL and Martin P. Holford of Kirkwood, Illinois.
Her step son, Gary Sanberg and Judy of Kirkwood, Illinois. There are
nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Her sister, Mildred
Warner of Kirkwood is also surviving. Preceding her in her death are her
parents, Daniel and Blanche, her daughter, Rhonda Lynn Holford in 1958,
and two brothers, and one sister. Her son’s fiancé’, Mary Foust and her
stepdaughter, Nancy Kennedy (John Kennedy) also have preceded her in death.
A memorial service for Doris Sanberg is planned on Saturday August 7,
2021 at 2:00 pm at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois.
Cremation has been accorded, and her ashes will be interred in Center
Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorial funds are being established for
either the Kirkwood Senior Citizens or the Kirkwood United Methodist
