In Warren County this week, the reporting of positive COVID-19 cases has more than doubled.

Health Department Administrator Jenna Link said Wednesday that her office has received notification of at least 13 new cases since Sunday, and she expects that number to increase.

Meanwhile, Link reports that even though 38 percent of county residents are fully vaccinated against the virus, including 51 percent of those eligible to receive the vaccine, the Delta variant continues to spread quickly.

“(The vaccine) is 95 percent-plus effective on reducing severe symptoms and preventing hospitalizations,” Link said. “It does not prevent you from getting COVID. There’s a lot of misunderstanding out there. People think since they have the shot, they’re good to go.

“That’s not what the vaccine is intended to do. It is designed to minimize symptoms and reduce hospitalizations. With the Delta variant the more symptomatic you are, the more contagious you are.

“People that are vaccinated who end up with COVID — if it’s a Delta variant — they could be spreading it. Regardless of vaccination status, if you’re in a group with a lot of people, (the CDC recommends to) wear your mask.”
