The recent spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19 has resulted in the reporting of nearly 70 new cases of the coronavirus in Warren County over the past two weeks, according to Health Department Administrator Jenna Link.
Link is concerned that the case spike has included a significant number of young residents. Twenty-three percent of the positive cases last week were under the age of 18.
“I will say, we’re starting to see more kids who are positive,” Link said. “Before, we didn’t have a whole lot of kids being tested who were symptomatic. Over the past two weeks, we are seeing an increase in pediatric cases … definitely trending in the wrong direction.”
Link went on to explain that of the new cases last week, 10 are of the “breakthrough” variety.
“When we talk about ‘breakthrough’ (cases), those are people who are fully vaccinated, and it’s been 14 days since their second dose, they’re symptomatic … but there were no hospitalizations,” Link said.
