New Notifications for Severe Weather

Share

The National Weather Service introducing new notifications for severe weather. Meteorologist Chris Miller says these will be similar to notifications you receive for things like amber alerts.

You already get these alerts for tornado warnings, but Miller indicates now the alerts will be expanded to severe thunderstorm warnings with the potential to do a lot of damage. Last August’s derecho storm was the catalyst for this process getting to the finish line. Miller says if they would have had this type of system in place last year they could have gotten information to the impacted areas in a much more effective way.
