The Buchanan Center for the Arts will officially unveil its Tin Cup mural project with a ribbon cutting at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at 226 S. Main St. in Monmouth.
Kendall Thompson, an Artist in Residence at the Buchanan Center, describes how he and fellow artist Rebecca Quick collaborated with the Tin Cup owners on the mural project theme:
“We went through the sketching process with the owners of the shop,” Thompson said. “We tried to work in aspects of Monmouth’s history and landscape that they were tied to and wanted to include, while also leaning toward our own abstract or non-representational styles of art.
“We went through three, four, five rounds of different designs and tried to tie it back to one unified style.”
Kristyne Gilbert, Executive Director of the BCA, shares her enthusiasm for the artwork created by her fellow Monmouth College graduates:
“I think it’s just a wonderful, serendipitous opportunity that Monmouth College students were able to create the artwork.
“Not only create the artwork but understand the importance of inclusivity and the history, and what the arts mean to the community in representing everyone.”
