Mr. David L. Marshall, 69, of Wataga, Illinois passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at home with his wife and pup, Marshall Dillion by his side.

David was born May 19, 1952, in Galesburg the son of James W. and Thelma Marie (Pate) Marshall. He married the love of his life, Vonna L. Selfridge on September 2, 1972, in Wataga.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Vonna; his son David C. (Kerri) Marshall of North Henderson and their children, Jacelyn, Zachary, and Haley; his daughter, Stephanie (Scott) Cordle of Wataga, their children, Isaac and Jack; his three sisters, Connie Knott of Wataga, Roxanne (Chuck) Guss of Aledo, Illinois and Joyce Setta of Rancho Cordova, California. He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, James, Rodney, and Bill Marshall.

David graduated from ROVA High School in 1971 and attended classes at Carl Sandburg College. He served in the US Army for two years in Germany as Sergeant.

David managed Hansen Lumber in Galesburg for over 37 years, retiring May 2017. He loved his customers and had a great passion for assisting them in all their projects. He was a 40-year member of the Galesburg Elks Lodge #894 and a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Wataga.  David was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and Green Bay Packers fan. He had a love for golf, participating on Tuesday evenings leagues at Oak Runs. His love of golf lead him to Paducah and Alabama on several guys golf trips.

His favorite pastime was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He supported them all with their school and sporting events. David took great pride with his yard, AKA the golf course. He could be seldom seen walking the streets of Wataga with Marshall Dillion.

David was an extraordinarily good pitch player, it wasn’t unusual for him to pull out a deck of cards anywhere wanting to play. Everyone wanted him as their partner.

Visitation is scheduled from 4:00-7:00 pm Friday, September 24, 2021, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Services will be 11:00 am Saturday at the chapel. In line with CDC and IDPH guidelines, attendees will be required to wear a mask in the funeral home. Burial will be in Wataga Cemetery with Military Rites accorded. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A Celebration of David’s Life will continue after the services at the Elks Lodge #894, 1640 N. Henderson Street, Galesburg. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
