Economic Impact of NASCAR Cup Race at Madison, IL Track

With this week’s announcement that the NASCAR Cup Series would be coming to World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, this marks the series’ return to Illinois after dropping Chicago following the 2019 season. The Cup series is the most sought-after motorsports series in the United States as it’s usually a big money-maker for the community, and a recent study seems to back that up.

Track spokesman John Bisci (BEE-SHE) says an economic impact study recently completed by The Rawlings Sports Business Management Department at Maryville University projects that this NASCAR Cup Series race will produce at least $60 million in economic impact for the St. Louis market.

The race will be on June 5 of next year. The NASCAR Truck race will move to that weekend as well, giving IndyCar a stand-alone date in August. Upgrades to parking are already underway, according to Bisci.
