A-Town to Clash With Knoxville in Showdown for Lincoln Trail Supremacy

The undefeated Abingdon-Avon Tornado football team is headed toward a first-place showdown in the Lincoln Trail Conference, when they travel to Knoxville this weekend for a 7 o’clock kickoff Saturday evening with the Blue Bullets.

Both teams are 7-0 and have clinched postseason berths. The atmosphere surrounding this weekend’s game should be electric, said A-Town coach Rick Quinn:

“This is why you play the game, why you put in the work,” Quin said. “The energy on the field, and in the stands, should be out of this world.”

The Tornadoes defeated Princeville 18-12 in Week 6, in a game that Quinn admittedly said his team didn’t start as sharply as he would have liked.

“We gave up 80 yards on that first drive (when Princeville scored its first touchdown), and about 60 the rest of the way,” Quinn said. “We know we’ll have to be better prepared this week.”

The importance of Saturday’s game will be evident throughout the week, according to Quinn.

“We will find out a lot about ourselves,” Quinn added. “It’s going to be quite the challenge.”

Saturday’s game between the Tornadoes and Blue Bullets will be broadcast live on the Prairie Communications Sports Network, beginning at 6:40 p.m. with the pregame show on AM 1330 WRAM.
