It Pays to be Familiar With the Various Sounds of Safety

Share

This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety!” works to educate everyone about the different sounds that smoke and carbon monoxide alarms can produce.

Knowing what to do when an alarm sounds will keep you and your family safe.

When an alarm makes noises – a beeping sound or a chirping sound – you must take action.

Monmouth Fire Chief Casey Rexroat explains:

“The different alarms and sounds in your house, when it comes to smoke or carbon monoxide detectors, it’s important to be familiar with those sounds.

“Typically the smoke alarm is a series of three beeps, followed by pause, and three more beeps.

“Carbon monoxide detector – which everyone should have in their house – those are normally four beeps.

“Along with those sounds, you have the chirps when the batteries are running low.”
