The Asian Carp is one of four types of the invasive fish found in the United States that were imported for the use in aquaculture ponds. Through flooding and accidental releases, the carp has made its way into the Mississippi River and surrounding waters, raising concerns in the aquatic ecosystem. Local entrepreneurs Andy Huston and Mike Oslee have launched the new project “Captain Carp,” where they are processing the Asian Carp into an organic sustainable fertilizer. Currently there are seven different products being processed through “Captain Carp,” says Oslee:
The “Captain Carp” organization will continue working with colleges and universities to provide more research on the up and coming project.
