Red Storm Gain Momentum, Eye Potential Playoff Berth, After Third Straight Victory

The United Red Storm football team posted its third straight victory and kept their playoff hopes alive Friday night by defeating ROWVA/Williamsfield, 40-22, on Senior Night in Monmouth.

After trailing 8-0 midway through the first quarter, the Red Storm ran off 40 unanswered points before giving up a couple of late touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

“We challenged our defense this week,” said Red Storm head coach David Milroy. “We knew they needed to play well.

“Offensively, once we score, we get comfortable.”

Cormaic Flynn and Aiden Parkins combined for five touchdowns as the Red Storm improved their overall and Lincoln Trail Conference records to 4-3.

Flynn scored on runs of 13 and 31 yards in the second and third quarters, respectively, before adding his third touchdown of the night on a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Parkins scored on quarterback sneaks of 1 and 2 yards. He helped open the scoring for the Red Storm in the first quarter when he connected with Abel Wilson on a 43-yard scoring play.

The Red Storm travel to Rushvile/Industry this week for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Friday, Oct. 15.
