Week eight of the IHSA football regular season has Monmouth-Roseville (6-1) (5-0) hosting Erie-Prophetstown (5-2) (4-0) at Coach Dobry Field in Monmouth on Friday. The winner will claim the Three Rivers Athletic Conference’s West Division championship. It would be the first TRAC division or conference championship in football program history for either school. Before the co-op with Erie started in 199, Prophetstown won a conference championship in 1988. It’s the final intra-division game for Monmouth-Roseville in the regular season. The Titans end the regular season with a TRAC cross-over match-up against Princeton (6-1) in week nine. E-P ends their regular season with a West Division game against Morrison (1-6).
Local historic rivals meet on the field in Knoxville on Saturday with the Lincoln Trail Conference championship on the line. The Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes (7-0) (6-0) and Knoxville Blue Bullets (7-0) (6-0) have at least a two game advantage in the LTC standings over the other seven teams in the conference. That makes the meeting on Saturday for all the marbles. The Abingdon, Avon and Knoxville schools have all been rivals for decades, long before the Abingdon and Avon districts consolidated before the 2013 season. Knoxville has held the advantage over A-Town in the last several year, holding a five-game winning streak. The last victory for the Tornadoes over the Blue Bullets was a 52-0 win in 2014. This is the first season for both teams in the Lincoln Trail Conference, after switching over from the Prairieland Conference in all sports starting this school year.
The United Red Storm (4-3) started the season (1-3) overall but have righted the ship and ran off three straight win since a loss to Knoxville in week 4. That streak has put the Red Storm deeply into the playoff mix. A win by United over Rushville-Industry (6-1) this week would more than likely seal a postseason berth for the Red Storm, their first since 2015. United ends the regular season with another road game at Abingdon-Avon in week nine.
